Trier University strengthens international relations with Taiwan!
The University of Trier with a delegation led by Prof. Dr. Eva Martha Eckkrammer recently made a significant trip to Taiwan to strengthen academic relationships and explore new collaborations. Around twenty members from eight different disciplines were involved in this stay, which is considered a significant step in the university's international commitment. The aim of the trip was to intensify cooperation with the National Chengchi University (NCCU) and to hold discussions with representatives of the National Taiwan University (NTU) and Tamkang University (TKU).
The delegation took part in the international conference “Human Values and Social Transformations in the Age of AI” at NCCU. During the visit, an important cooperation agreement was signed between the NTU and the University of Trier, which is intended to promote student exchange. This is a further step towards strengthening international exchange, which is of central importance to the university.
Important agreements and collaborations
The discussions between the University of Trier and its Taiwanese partners aim to create future partnerships and explore the potential for joint projects. The focus here is on exchange and collaboration in the areas of research and teaching. These steps are part of a larger trend that many German universities are pursuing: increasing international university cooperation.
The University of Trier currently has over 12,000 students and is part of an internationally oriented network that is committed to promoting German educational standards abroad. The international exchange initiative is supported by the HRK Code, which sets minimum qualitative requirements for German university projects abroad. This approach aims to position German universities as quality-conscious and interculturally sensitive partners in global educational competition.
Intercultural experiences and local history
Despite the rainy weather, the mood within the delegation was positive. In addition to the academic discussions, members took the opportunity to visit historical sights. A highlight of the trip was the Human Rights Memorial Park on Green Island and a visit to a former prison. Such places not only offer an insight into Taiwanese history, but also contribute to the intercultural education of students and university staff.
Overall, the visit of the University of Trier to Taiwan represents a significant step towards increasing the international visibility and attractiveness of the German higher education system and strengthening cooperation in the global educational space. The University of Trier, like many other German universities, is committed to establishing and expanding international relationships.
