WHU receives BSIS certificate again: pioneering work for business and society!

The WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management again received the Business School Impact System certificate (BSIS certificate) on June 25, 2025. This award recognizes the university's significant influence on corporate development and society at its locations.

WHU received the certificate for the first time in 2022. The extension of the certificate is valid for three years, after a successful examination. This makes WHU the only university in Germany to have been awarded this certificate. Prof. Dr. Christian Andres, Rector of WHU, expressed his joy about this new award and emphasized the positive influence of WHU.

Influence and commitment of WHU

The BSIS certificate is assessed in seven areas: finance, education, business development, intellectual and social impact, image and influence on the regional ecosystem. EFMD experts emphasized that WHU is building close ties to business and specifically promoting talent. Through a well-structured Entrepreneurship Center, the university supports young companies in the region, which means that 147 million euros flow to companies and service providers.

WHU’s contribution to the founding of companies is particularly impressive. Over the past 20 years, WHU alumni have founded over 1,000 companies and created more than 60,000 jobs. WHU is also considered the most efficient start-up university in Europe, measured by the number of start-ups per 100 million euro budget. Currently, 15 German start-ups with a valuation of at least one billion euros (unicorns) have their roots at WHU.

Sustainability and social responsibility

WHU is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All students are trained in these areas, which shows that 100 percent of WHU students show interest in CSR and sustainability concepts. In addition, many student initiatives are committed to social projects and collect significant donations every year. mba-journal.de

The influence of universities on local and global challenges is becoming increasingly important in the context of sustainable development. Universities are crucial for training qualified specialists and responsible persons who will contribute to solving these challenges. The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) emphasizes that universities play a key role in the implementation of all sustainability goals and contribute to economic development through practice-oriented study programs and the promotion of business start-ups. daad.de

Overall, WHU proves that it is not only a pioneer in the field of education, but also actively contributes to the economic and social development of its region. The renewed award with the BSIS certificate underlines their importance in the university landscape and their commitment to a sustainable future.
