Digital revolution in law: IT court day 2025 brings AI expertise!
The EDV Court Day (EDVGT) is just around the corner and will take place for the 34th time this year from September 10th to 12th on the Saarland University campus. Around 800 experts from the fields of justice, legal profession, administration, politics and science are expected to discuss current topics and innovative approaches to digitalization in the legal sector. The motto of the event is: “Next Generation Law – From AI to ZPO digital” reports Saarland University.
The kick-off event will open on September 11th at 9 a.m. Dr. Anke Morsch will welcome viewers to the Audimax before a panel discussion about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in legal work. Professor Katharina Zweig will also give a keynote speech on how language models work. The discussion, moderated by Anke Morsch, will deal with the topics of transparency and traceability of AI decisions.
Focus topics of the event
On the first day of the EDVGT the focus is on IT security. Current threats and protective measures are discussed, particularly with regard to data protection violations and cyber attacks on Android apps. The event also includes working groups dedicated to the topics of digital legal standards, AI applications in the courtroom and new IT solutions for the judiciary.
Another central issue is the new E-Evidence Regulation, which will regulate European access to electronic evidence from August 2026. In this context, the challenges posed by deepfakes, which are important for the judiciary and legal profession, are also addressed. The topic is how such techniques can be recognized and what effects they have on the legal process.
Application of law and digital innovation projects
An important point of the discussion will also be the adaptation of the civil process to digital processes. The Federal-State Commission for Information Technology in the Judiciary will report on e-justice and AI projects that are already showing progress in the digitalization of the judicial landscape. The challenges of high-risk AI systems as well as the requirements of the European AI Regulation (AI Act) will also be on the agenda.
The event is rounded off by an accompanying company exhibition at which software and hardware providers, publishers and IT specialists present their latest developments. The EDVGT has established itself as a central forum for digital innovation in the legal sector for over 34 years and sustainably supports digitalization in the judiciary and administration.
