Discover the microworlds: Exciting lectures for curious children!

The Saar Children's University starts the summer semester with an exciting topic: microworlds. This series is aimed at curious children between the ages of 8 and 12 and includes a variety of fascinating lectures that will take place every Wednesday from May 7, 2025 at 4:15 p.m. in the Auditorium Maximum of the Saarbrücken Campus (building B4 1). Registration is now possible, and the lectures not only offer educational content, but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of science.

The first lecture is entitled “How do the tiny blood cells travel through our veins?”, presented by Christian Wagner, a professor of experimental physics. On June 11th, Sebastian Ewen, the chief cardiologist at the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic, will explain, “Why is the heart the engine of our life?” Finally, on July 2nd, Julia Schulze-Hentrich, Professor of Epigenetics, will answer the question: “What are genes and how do they make you as unique as you are?” Each of these lectures lasts approximately 45 minutes and admission begins at 4:00 p.m.

Parents can participate

An interesting feature of the children's university is the opportunity for parents to take part in the events via live stream. They can follow the lectures together with their children in a so-called “parents’ lecture hall”. Registration for all three lectures takes place via the Children's University website. Questions can be addressed directly to Prof. Dr. Markus Peschel can be reached on 0681 302-71399 or by email at markus.peschel(at)uni-saarland.de. Kerstin Nicolai and Patrick Peifer are also available on 0681 302-57556 and can be contacted at kinderuni(at)uni-saarland.de.

In addition to the topics of microworlds, the children's university also offers lectures on listening. Animals with different ears are introduced here and how children hear are explained. Another interesting aspect is the information about the fact that people often lose hearing as they get older, as well as tips on how children can make older relatives, such as grandma and grandpa, more understandable. This is intended to help you better perceive the many sounds in nature as well as stories and music. These lectures are part of the extensive program that the Saar Children's University has in store for young explorers and offer valuable insights into various subject areas of science.

The Saar Children's University is a great opportunity for children not only to gain new knowledge, but also to learn practical, life-oriented tips and to promote curiosity for the world of science. Participation in these lectures is about interactive learning and the discovery of exciting topics that are intended to actively stimulate the young participants.
