Guest student studies at Saar University: Register now and get started!

Saarland University is now opening registration options for guest auditor studies in the summer semester of 2025. Those interested without a special academic background can take part in selected courses and special guest auditor courses. The courses begin in the second week of April and offer access to current research results and topics from various disciplines.

The guest auditor program enables participants to design an individual program from hundreds of regular courses offered by all faculties. Examples of topics include business administration, computer science, quantum mechanics and population research. Special courses such as “Music Experience and Musicology” as well as seminars on fear of public speaking and stage fright are also part of the offer. A significant focus is on interdisciplinary subject areas, which also include classical studies, history and philosophy.

Diverse course offerings

The courses are available both online and in person. Desired topics include the Roman Empire, the American Civil War and social questions about European studies. A special cultural summer tour meets challenges with guided tours of archives and museums, while psychological aspects such as dementia and aging are addressed in specific courses.

Participation in the guest auditor program does not require any special admission requirements or age limits. The participation fee is 110 euros or 155 euros per semester. An introductory program presentation event will take place on April 3rd, followed by a detailed program presentation on April 7th. Both events start at 12:15 p.m. in building A4 2 on the Saarbrücken campus, but are also accessible online.

Support networks for guest auditors

The guest student association at Saarland University acts as a contact point for seniors and working people who feel committed to the concept of lifelong learning. This association works closely with the Center for Lifelong Learning (ZelL) to represent the interests of guest auditors and to actively promote guest student studies. The club's activities include lectures, seminars, excursions and symposia that aim to promote social relationships between visiting students and regular students.

The Academic Association of Seniors in Germany (AVDS) complements the picture of educational offerings for older people. The AVDS is committed to uniform and open senior studies and offers comprehensive information on types of study and study providers. The aim of the association is to standardize the conditions for seniors and guest students at German universities, a concern that is becoming increasingly important in today's educational landscape.

Digitalization in educational institutions, especially during the Corona pandemic, has expanded the possibilities for guest student studies. Many universities have significantly expanded their range of online events, making it easier for seniors to access education.
