Public lectures at the university: drama and sustainability in focus!

Saarland University will intensify its efforts towards public education and social responsibility in the 2025 summer semester. The upcoming lectures cover a wide range of topics, from sustainable development to contemporary drama, and are accessible to all interested parties. The university's events calendar provides further information.

As part of these events, the Poetics Lectureship for Drama will take place on Monday, June 2nd at 8:00 p.m Armin Petras continued in the Saarland State Theater, Great House (middle foyer). The lecture entitled “The Nibelungen Apparatus” will be held as part of the “War and Theater” series that Armin Petras is presenting at various locations in Saarbrücken this May and June. All lectures are free of charge and an open discussion format is planned after the approximately one-hour lecture.

Variety of lectures

The events include further presentations that deal with current social issues. A lecture by Mara Wagner and Alena Jahns will take place on Tuesday, June 3rd at 5:15 p.m., which will discuss the acceptance of sustainable technologies in the circular economy. This lecture is part of the lecture series “Spaceship Earth – Sustainability” and takes place in the chemistry lecture hall building (building C4 3, room 0.03/small lecture hall II). For those who cannot be there, the lectures will also be offered online.

On the same day at 6:15 p.m., Professor Benedikt Schnellbächer will speak about economic instruments for transformation as part of the lecture series in the Department of Economics. The lecture will take place in the Audimax building (Building B4 1, Room 0.06), although external interested parties can also participate online upon request.

Another highlight will be on Wednesday, June 4th, at 6:00 p.m. in building B3 2, lecture hall 0.03, when Professor Frank Schimmelfennig will examine the borders of Europe and the role of crises in the development of the European Union. The week ends on Friday, June 6th, with an online lecture by Professor Eva Möhler, which starts at 1:00 p.m. and deals with child protection in the context of digitalization.
