Saarbrücken celebrates researchers: prizes for groundbreaking ideas and findings!
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, the eagerly awaited award ceremony for the Dr. Eduard Martin Prize 2025 will take place in the auditorium of the Saarbrücken Campus at 6 p.m. As the Saarland University reports, a total of 14 outstanding doctoral students will be honored for their innovative dissertation work. The event will be broadcast live via MSTeams and promises interesting insights into the diverse research at the university, where around 2,800 doctoral students work.
The award-winning researchers come from various faculties and deal with a variety of topics. Among the prominent award winners are Dr. Claudia Maria Franke, who deals with the influence of virtual influencers on social media, and Dr. Kerstin Lenhof, who uses machine learning to predict the effectiveness of cancer drugs. Also Dr. Felix Deschner, who is researching new treatment options against multi-resistant germs, is being honored.
Innovative research in focus
The award ceremony is not only an honor for exceptional scientific achievements, but also a showcase for current research trends. Examples of this include the work of Lukas Siegwardt, who develops 3D printed products that can change color like a chameleon. As part of his research, he patented an environmentally friendly process that does not require the use of harmful dyes.
Another exciting project is being presented by researchers at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), who are developing novel cancer drugs specifically for children with cancer. These medications are manufactured using a special 3D printer that allows the dosage to be customized. How t online reported, conventional tablets often not only have the disadvantage that they are difficult for children to swallow, but also that they have an unpleasant taste. The new, 3D printed chewable tablets, on the other hand, impress with their child-friendly shape and raspberry flavor.
- Schlüsselpunkte der Studie:
- Teilnehmer: 20 krebskranke Kinder
- Behandlungszyklus: Vergleich herkömmlicher Tabletten und 3D-gedruckter Kautabletten
- Vorteil: Individuell anpassbare Dosierung, speziell für Kinder
The study not only examines the acceptance of these new tablets, but also their effectiveness during chemotherapy. 3D printing could play a crucial role here by enabling the production of an accurate dose for each child, thereby improving compliance with treatment. Study leader Alexander von Hugo sees this development as a potential milestone in medicine.
Tradition and distinction
The Dr. Eduard Martin Prize has been awarded since 1963 and since 1976 has borne the name of the important scientist Dr. Edward Martin. The award recognizes not only the academic achievements, but also the innovative strength of the researchers. Each winner receives an owl statuette and prize money.
The awards ceremony is organized in collaboration with GradUS. The keynote speaker is Dr. Jens Ewen, Vice President for Digitalization and Internationalization at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, who will honor the graduates and their significant contributions to research. This celebration will undoubtedly be a highlight for the academic community of Saarland and beyond.
