Saarland University is preparing for the coming winter semester and will open the application portals for prospective students at the end of May. A “course selection workshop” will take place on campus on June 5th and will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Central Student Advisory Service is available to provide future students with comprehensive support and to give them valuable information about the university's range of courses. Participants have the opportunity to engage in personal exchanges with study ambassadors and thus gain individual insights.

In addition to the workshops, the university offers an online lecture series on study orientation and applications. This lecture series is free and does not require registration. The dates cover special topics that are of interest to prospective students:

International study opportunities in Germany

Germany has established itself as the third most important host country for international students, after the USA and Great Britain. According to Studienwahl.de, the proportion of foreign students rose from 7.9% in the winter semester of 1995/1996 to around 13% in the winter semester of 2022/2023. This corresponds to approximately 368,000 international students. The preferred fields of study include engineering, law and business.

More and more foreign students are choosing German universities, which have over 33,000 partnerships with universities in around 150 countries. These collaborations enable numerous international summer universities where students can gain their first impressions before starting their regular studies. Particularly noteworthy are the programs offered in English, which do not require proof of German language skills.

The wide range of over 21,500 bachelor's and master's programs at both traditional universities and technical colleges is an important attraction. EU citizens and some selected countries can enter Germany without a visa, which further increases the attractiveness for international students.

Study advice for specific target groups

Bildungsserver.de emphasizes the importance of comprehensive study advice for various target groups and offers information about relevant support offers. Hochschulkompass helps you research types of universities and locations. Student advice centers provide valuable support in social, financial and health matters.

For special life situations, there are projects such as the Study and Disability Information and Advice Center. The aim here is to remove barriers for students with disabilities and to ensure equal opportunities.

In summary, it can be seen that preparations for the 2025 winter semester at Saarland University are in full swing and numerous support options are available for both local and international students.
