Autumn University in Halle: Rediscover the future profession of teaching!
The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) is organizing the Autumn Uni from October 15th to 17th, 2025, an event that is intended to appeal to students from the 10th grade, high school graduates in the orientation phase and those interested with a technical college entrance qualification from all over Germany. More than 90 participants are expected, who will be able to engage intensively with the teaching profession. As part of the event, there will be a discussion with Prof. Dr. on Thursday, October 16th. Pablo Pirnay-Dummer, Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching, and Jürgen Böhm, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education.
Rector Prof. Dr. Claudia Becker will warmly welcome the participants in the auditorium in the lion building. Under the motto “Awaken the teacher in you!” The Autumn University offers participants the opportunity to try things out and receive individual advice. The aim is to develop skills and receive feedback on your suitability as a teacher. With this initiative, MLU also aims to improve networking with students, lecturers and teachers from school practice and to promote the image of the teaching profession. Already in 2024, the Autumn University Teaching Profession was awarded the “University Pearl of the Month” award.
Successful premiere of the fall university last year
The first autumn university took place at MLU in 2024, with around 70 students in grades 10 to 13 taking part. The event is intended to arouse interest in the teaching profession and create incentives for studying to become a teacher. In addition to individual support, study advice and many workshops, the program consists of over 40 offers for various types of schools and subjects. The feedback from last year was consistently positive, which encouraged MLU to organize the event again in 2025.
The Center for Teacher Training (ZLSB) at the Technical University of Dresden plays an important role in the coordination of teacher training. With around 50 employees, the ZLSB supports around 4,000 teacher training students. It not only coordinates teacher training and further education offerings, but also promotes research in the field of teacher training as well as school and vocational training research. Such initiatives will further strengthen teacher training in Saxony. Events like the Autumn University are therefore of great importance not only for the participants, but also for the educational landscape.
