Halle Children's University: Start exciting discoveries for young researchers!

The children's university at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) starts on June 2, 2025 and offers students in grades 1 to 6 an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of science. On the last three Mondays before the summer holidays, a varied program is scheduled to arouse the curiosity of young researchers.

The planned event times are always from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with further dates on June 16 and 23, 2025. The children can not only attend lectures, but also take part in practical expeditions. As part of these events, participants can expect topics such as poisons, the European Union and the exciting world of the archaeological museum. Registrations are possible from May 5th, 2025 to May 26th, 2025. Access to these educational resources is free, which makes the children's university attractive for many families.

Series of events and offers

In addition to the children's university, tours and workshops are offered in 18 research facilities, collections and institutes at the university. These activities, which provide a comprehensive exposure to various scientific disciplines, help children develop a deeper understanding of the topics. As part of the events, children also receive lanyards with a student ID and can book an optional lunch menu for €1.00 in the cafeteria, in collaboration with the student union.

The children's lectures are designed to address big questions in a child-friendly way and give the children time to ask the professors questions. This form of teaching is not only informative but also interactive, which further promotes learning. After completing the events, participants receive a certificate of participation that recognizes their scientific efforts.

An offer with tradition

The children's university has existed since 2004 and has continuously developed. This initiative aims to give young people early exposure to higher education and show them that access to university does not have to be taken for granted. The university has recognized how important it is to make its own work visible in society and to promote interest in scientific topics among the general public.

The events are developed and implemented by university staff, which helps the children get a real insight into university life. Similar formats take place at other universities, such as in Tübingen, where the children's university was founded in 2002 and is now established at many other universities in order to offer children an understandable and interesting introduction to various scientific disciplines.
