Universities of Halle, Jena and Leipzig: Innovations at the 2025 Book Fair!

From March 27th to 30th, 2025, the Leipzig Book Fair will once again offer a highlight for literature, education and science. This year, the universities in Halle, Jena and Leipzig are presenting themselves together under the banner of the Central German University Association. The event location is the Forum Unibund in Hall 2, Stand C301. The Central German University Association, which has been pooling the strengths of these universities for 30 years, has enriched the forum with a lively lecture program since 2017.

A total of 20 panel discussions and lectures on socially relevant topics and new book publications will take place. The focus is particularly on the role of universities in the development of their cities, as well as important social issues. The forum opens on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Prof. Dr. Claudia Becker from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Prof. Dr. Eva Inés Obergfell from the University of Leipzig and Prof. Dr. Andreas Marx from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena took part in how press releases.pr.uni-halle.de reported.

Event program highlights

The program offers a diverse range of topics. A panel discussion on the role of the churches will take place on March 27th at 12 p.m., followed by another discussion on “Commitment and Protest in Saxony” on the same day at 2 p.m. A highlight is the book presentation “Fact Check Biodiversity” on Friday, March 28th, at 11 a.m. On Saturday, March 29th, there are two more events: at 2 p.m. the topic “Experience the city in motion - multimedia and interdisciplinary city tours for everyone” will be discussed. At 4 p.m., visitors can learn more about the interactions between film and emotions, presented by Esther Zwiky. Finally, on Sunday March 30th, the importance of nutrition for the skin will be presented, led by Dr. Dorothea Portius.

The Unibund Halle – Jena – Leipzig can look back on a successful collaboration that enriches not only the universities, but also the neighboring communities. The forum is the perfect opportunity for visitors to find out about the courses offered by the universities and get personal advice. The event expects lively participation, especially from trade visitors, school and college students, who make up a significant part of the audience. This is also reflected in the approximately 283,000 visitors who came to the Leipzig Book Fair and the “Leipzig Reads” supporting program in 2024 leipziger-buchmesse.de mentioned.

Insights into education and media

A central aspect of the Leipzig Book Fair is the education area, which offers the second largest exhibition area for educational institutions, schools and daycare centers. The fair is not only one of the largest education fairs in Germany, but also rich in digital media as tools for learning and teaching. Hundreds of events are also offered here as part of the FOKUS EDUCATION program. The UVERSE Youth Campus continues this commitment and offers more than 90 workshops on cultural education.

The book fair will continue to offer a platform for trade visitors, of which 66,000 have already taken part in 2024, many with teaching professions. With around 20,000 students coming in class groups on Thursday and Friday, the close connection between educational institutions and the trade fair is also evident.
