Build your own smoker: TUCtag at Chemnitz University of Technology!
On May 10, 2025, Chemnitz University of Technology will host the popular TUCtag. This event not only promises insights into the university, but also a very special experience for visitors: They have the opportunity to make their own Uni(kat) smoker called “TUCelino”. Production takes place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the university part of Reichenhainer Straße 70, Hall E.
“TUCelino” was first presented in 2015 and is now in a new edition in which the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is cooperating. Visitors can create the individual parts of the smoker at nine different production stations. Materials range from a metal plate for the body to special high-pressure water jets used for the arms and hands. Each participant receives the individual parts so that they can put them together themselves at the end.
The history of the smoking family
The “TUCelino” is not the only representative of his family. “TUCelina” followed in 2016 as a smoker. In 2017, both performed together, and in 2018, “TUCelini,” a baby incense cone dispenser, was welcomed into the family. In 2019, the “TUCelinackel”, a dog with a bobble head, was added. This traditional smoking family was also honored in the book project “The Rail is Not Far from the Horse”.
500 limited pieces of “TUCelino” are planned for TUCtag. The aim of the initiative is to give guests a self-made souvenir and to give them an insight into the university and the manufacturing process. If you would like to find out more about the program items, you can find further information online on the official website of Chemnitz University of Technology TUCtag.
If you have any questions, Thomas Hänel is available on 0371 531-32658 or via email at thomas.haenel@mb.tu-chemnitz.de.
The event promises to be a highlight in the university's calendar, highlighting both creative and nostalgic elements, and thus invites all interested parties to become part of this special event.
