Application start for medical studies: secure your place!
The application for the sixth year of the model course in human medicine (MEDiC) at the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) begins on April 1st and runs until April 30th. This innovative course, which has been offered in Chemnitz since its introduction in 2020, aims to improve medical care in the region and specifically appeal to applicants from southwest Saxony, such as TU Dresden reported.
The MEDiC course of study is aimed at 50 students per year, 30% of whom are accepted via the best Abitur quota, 60% via a university selection process (AdH) and 10% via an additional aptitude quota (ZEQ). The AdH and ZEQ places are awarded through a specially developed selection process that is intended to offer applicants the opportunity to improve their chances of getting a place at university through the Test for Medical Studies (TMS) and a selection interview.
Selection interviews and criteria
The selection interviews will take place from June 23rd to 27th, 2025 at the Chemnitz Clinic and last one hour each. The personal motivation, commitment and empathy of the candidates are assessed.
A central concern of the MEDiC course is to ensure long-term medical care in the region. The close collaboration between the TUD Medical Faculty and the Chemnitz Clinic ensures that the training of doctors is practical and future-oriented. Chemnitz Clinic emphasizes that the focus is on innovative approaches to medical training and that touching insights into the medical profession are provided right from the start.
Study and content
The MEDiC course, which is based on the licensing regulations for doctors, lasts 12.5 semesters and ends with the third state examination. Students have the opportunity to pursue further training to become a specialist in any medical specialty. The students learn in a modular and organ system-related curriculum, with the majority of teaching taking place on campus at the Chemnitz Clinic.
An additional element of the course is a three-month nursing service, which can be completed before the start of the course and will be credited. This integrative approach enables students to gain practical experience in the medical field at an early stage and to optimally prepare for their future role as doctors.
