The Dresden Senior Citizens Academy (DSA) starts the summer semester on March 24, 2025 and offers a wide range of educational opportunities for older citizens. Integration of artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in the everyday lives of older people. senak.inf.tu-dresden.de highlights that many seniors regularly use AI-based technologies, such as voice assistants and smart watches. The Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organizations (BAGSO) is committed to ensuring that older people actively engage with these technologies and learn about their advantages.
The DSA is part of an innovative project funded by BAGSO and as part of which the Dresden Senior Academy was named one of ten new AI learning locations. A total of 42 such learning locations in Germany promote work with artificial intelligence, with the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) supporting the project. Technology worth 5,000 euros will be provided to enable older people to have everyday experiences with AI systems.
Educational trips and exciting excursions
In addition to the learning content, the summer semester also offers educational trips to important places that are anchored in the history of art and culture. These include trips to the Pömmelte ring sanctuary as well as to Prague and Vienna to discover traces of famous artists. In addition, participants can experience guided tours of facilities such as the Gönnsdorf observatory, the Radeberg bodyworks and the Reinhardtsgrimma mushroom museum.
A special highlight is also scheduled for May 13, 2025. On this day there will be an action day organized by the SZ-Lebensbegleiter, the aim of which is to explore the opportunities and challenges of AI. Visitors have the opportunity to try out the Alexa voice service at the DSA information stand and learn more about the practical applications of artificial intelligence in everyday life.
