Digital Rail Convention 2025: Discover the future of mobility in the Ore Mountains!
The upcoming Digital Rail Convention (DRC) from September 17th to 19th, 2025 in Annaberg-Buchholz is expected to be an important event in the field of digitized and automated rail transport. Organized by the Smart Rail Connectivity Campus (SRCC) in collaboration with partners from business, research and politics, the event aims to establish an innovation hub in the Ore Mountains. The focus is on the topics of sustainable mobility and the use of the latest technologies.
On the first day of the conference, Conference Day, participants can expect an extensive program with keynotes, various workstreams and lectures. Networking opportunities provide the opportunity to network with industry professionals. The planned topics of the workstreams include private 5G networks on the railways, low-emission local rail transport and data security in the digital age. Target groups are researchers and actors who are interested in the digitalization of rail transport.
Diverse program and networking
The second day, known as DemoDay, will take place at Annaberg-Buchholz Unterer Bahnhof station. Here, exhibitors can present their work areas and research results and offer interactive show cases along the DB RegioNetz Erzgebirgsbahn. This day opens its doors to the general public in the afternoon. An Open Stage Café will also be set up where the topics of remote operation and sustainable mobility will be discussed.
The last day of the DRC, PublicDay4Kids, is aimed at school classes in grades 8 to 12. Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., students are introduced to MINT opportunities (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) in order to promote interest in apprenticeships in these areas. The organizer aims to reach around 250 students from the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge region. Interested exhibitors can register to participate by email at drc@smart-rail-campus.de.
Research and development in the mobility sector
The digitalization of the mobility sector is very important in Germany. Technologies that enable autonomous and connected driving are intended to improve quality of life by making traffic flow more smoothly and reducing potential accidents. More and more modern vehicles are connected to the internet, providing real-time information about traffic, weather and road conditions.
The introduction of intelligent transport systems (ITS) is crucial to meet the challenges of the 21st century in road transport. This also includes research funding for projects that want to bring autonomous and networked vehicles into regular operation. In order to meet these goals, close cooperation between research, politics and industry is essential.
