Here are Professor Dr. Udo Rudolph and his team are particularly dependent on understanding the fears of visitors.

Edvard Munch's influence on art

Edvard Munch is considered one of the most influential European artists, whose works explore profound themes such as love, fear and death. These subjects are often surrounded by an eerie atmosphere that makes viewers think. Well-known works such as “Fear” and “The Scream” address inner conflicts and existential fears. The Leopold Museum has demonstrated Munch's influence on European art in the past by presenting his works and their connection to other artists in an exhibition from October 16, 2009 to January 18, 2010.

The themes Munch addresses are not only of historical importance, but also current. In 1919, Sigmund Freud focused on the psychological aspects of the uncanny in “The Uncanny,” which is of great interest in the context of the upcoming exhibition. These deep psychological questions and the influence of the uncanny run through the entire artistic tradition, which extends from Munch to the Symbolists to artists such as Egon Schiele.

The upcoming exhibition promises to not only showcase Munch's major works, but also explore his artistic influence on the depiction of psyche and emotions. Visitors have the opportunity to deal with the psychological depths and fears captured in the pictures of Munch and his contemporaries.
