On June 21, 2025, the graduation ceremony at Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) took place in the impressive St. Petri Church. Over 310 graduates and twelve doctoral candidates received their certificates and ceremoniously wore their gowns and berets. The bachelor's and master's graduates dressed in black, while the doctoral graduates appeared in red with colored ribbons for their faculties. It was a significant event that recognized the hard work of the students.
During the celebration, Prof. Dr. Maximilian Eibl, Vice Rector for Teaching and International Affairs, encouraged the graduates to bring scientific thinking into society. Ralph Burghart, the mayor for human resources, finance and education, also congratulated and emphasized the importance of the Capital of Culture year. The ceremony was musically provided by the Collegium musicum of the TU Chemnitz e. V. under the direction of Konrad Schöbel.
Inspirational speeches and international participation
Angelina Wettinger, a graduate and TUC ambassador, gave the first graduation speech. She spoke about the valuable lessons that can be learned from failure. Dr. Giuseppe Sanseverino, a mechanical engineer with a doctorate, followed and emphasized the relevance of international programs. More than 560 guests from different parts of the world were present, underlining the university's international orientation.
The event lasted two and a half hours and included traditional elements such as a group photo and hat toss. After the ceremony, the TUC summer night took place in the inner courtyard of the Böttcher building. DJs provided music here and there were numerous activities, including a salsa crash course by the student initiative “TUC dances”.
Alumni events and international programs
The TUC offers its graduates the opportunity to stay connected through various programs and an alumni network. As part of these efforts, the university is hosting the 12th International Alumni Meeting from May 9th to 11th, 2025. This happens as part of the TUCday, which includes many events and activities. Graduates of celebratory years in particular can look forward to being awarded an honorary diploma on May 10th by Rector Prof. Dr. Gerd Strohmeier will take place. The meeting begins with a get-together in the university library and a tour of the new library, which is housed in the “Old Aktienspinnerei”.
The “Long Night of Sciences” with insights into research and numerous tours of the university are also on the program on May 10th. Graduates have the opportunity to browse through their old student files and refresh vivid memories. The meeting will conclude on May 11th with a city tour of Chemnitz's most famous sights.
Commitment to international education
The TUC aims to promote the further education of alumni from developing and industrialized countries through various programs and seminars. These seminars are designed in such a way that they offer participants not only technical but also professional training. Topics that are relevant to the development policy goals set out by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA) are supported.
The events are intended to promote contact between German universities and international alumni. The focus is on topics such as water and environmental management, health promotion and current challenges in cultural and educational policy. Each of these seminars offers alumni the opportunity to expand their skills and strengthen global networks.
In summary, it can be said that Chemnitz University of Technology not only builds local but also international bridges and supports its graduates in a variety of ways.
