Freiberg calls entrepreneurs: The most innovative concept wins 500 euros!
The “Living City Center” start-up competition in Freiberg is not only an integral part of the local corporate culture, but is also celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The competition aims to strengthen the connection between the city, society and the university and thus promote the creation of new businesses. This competition has been organized together with the founding network SAXEED at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg since 2016. The initiators are looking for creative ideas in three categories to stimulate the region's innovative strength.
The application phase runs until October 31, 2025. Interested parties can submit their ideas via a short, two-minute check on the SAXEED website. The award ceremony will take place on November 18, 2025 in the “Silver Gate” of the City and Mining Museum. At this event, the finalists will present their concepts and the audience will have the opportunity to vote live on site for the best idea. The winner of the best idea receives 500 euros, while second and third places receive attractive non-cash prizes such as AirPods.
Categories of the competition
The competition includes the following three categories:
- Neugründung: Hier wird das beste Geschäftskonzept ausgezeichnet. Der Preis beinhaltet einen monatlichen Mietzuschuss von 500 Euro für ein Jahr, ein Kommunikationspaket im Wert von 2.000 Euro sowie ein Businesskonto mit 75% Ermäßigung für zwei Jahre und ein Weiterbildungspaket im Wert von 250 Euro. Bewerbungen sind bis zum 30. September möglich.
- Entwicklung: Für bestehende Geschäfte mit innovativen Ansätzen gibt es hier auch eine Auszeichnung. Der Gewinner erhält ein individuelles Mediapaket im Wert von 2.000 Euro. Bürger können Geschäftsmodelle vorschlagen, und eine Jury wird am 15. Oktober zur Evaluation der Nominierungen unterwegs sein, ehe vom 17. Oktober bis zum 16. November die Abstimmung über die besten Nominierungen erfolgt.
- Idee: Diese Kategorie ist speziell für Schüler, Studierende und Wissenschaftler gedacht, die neue Produkte oder Dienstleistungen einreichen möchten. Auch hier erfolgt die Bewerbung über den zwei-minütigen Ideen-Check, und der beste Vorschlag wird mit 500 Euro belohnt. Sachpreise werden auch für die Plätze zwei und drei vergeben.
The award ceremony will be part of the Germany-wide Founders' Week. The competition aims to promote the region's innovative strength and has already produced numerous start-ups, such as the winners of recent years. Previous winners in the start-up category include “Konfuzius China Imbiss & Teekultur” from 2024 and the food vending machine from New Age of FOOD from 2023.
Freiberg's start-up competition is more than just a competition; it is a significant driver of the local economy and creates a platform that brings ideas and talent together. This not only strengthens the local corporate culture, but also increases the city's attractiveness as a location for founders.
