Innovations for the future: DZM locations shine at the UITP Summit in Hamburg
Preparations for the event will begin on June 2, 2025 UITP Summit 2025, which takes place in Hamburg from June 16th to 18th. As the world's largest industry meeting for sustainable mobility, the event will attract over 10,000 trade visitors from more than 100 countries. As part of this event, four innovation locations of the German Center for Future Mobility (DZM) will present their projects and research results.
The DZM locations are Hamburg, Annaberg-Buchholz, Minden and Karlsruhe. In the “Research & Innovation Area” (Hall A, Stand A1700) the locations show their regional focuses. Hamburg will place a particular focus on digitalization and wireless technologies for transport infrastructure. Here, the “Hanseatic Wireless Innovation Competence Center” (HAWICC) researches wireless sensors and AI analysis methods for a service life-optimized transport infrastructure.
Innovative approaches for rural areas
Annaberg-Buchholz will focus on human-technology interaction. A prototype of a teleoperation workstation is being developed in the Smart Rail Connectivity Campus (SRCC) innovation cluster. The exhibits show human-centered design for operating and control environments that are crucial for the future of mobility.
Minden also makes a significant contribution, where new mobility solutions specifically for rural areas are presented. In collaboration with the MONOCAB project, a gyroscopically stabilized monorail with self-propelled cabins is being presented. During the RailCampus rail discussion, the acceptance of automated rail vehicles will also be discussed, which is important for the integration of new technologies in transport.
As part of the Country to City Bridge (C2CBridge) project, Karlsruhe is showing promising approaches to creating sustainable transport options between city and country. A demonstrator will present the combination of public transport offers and autonomous taxis in rural areas.
Global challenges and solutions
The initiatives and developments presented at the UITP Summit are part of a larger trend towards creating sustainable mobility in cities. The current one report points out that over 50% of the global population lives in cities and is expected to reach around 70% by 2050. A fundamental transport transition is therefore necessary to overcome challenges such as gridlock, air pollution and increasing noise.
Political initiatives such as the European Green Deal and the EU's Global Gateway initiative demonstrate the urgency and international focus on sustainable transport policy. Mobility is a crucial factor for inclusive and fair cities, especially for women and disadvantaged groups. In order to overcome these challenges, targeted measures to promote climate-neutral and fair mobility are required.
Over 300 exhibitors and 340 speakers are planned for the UITP Summit 2025. The Mobility Festival on June 14, 2025 will also feature an interactive event on redesigning mobility for all ages. Hamburg, as a hub for progress in mobility, also relies on innovative infrastructure and first-class public transport to advance proven concepts for improving urban mobility.
