International cooperation: TU Dresden strengthens partnerships in the Czech Republic!
On July 9th and 11th, 2025, the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) will welcome high-level delegations from the Czech Republic to deepen bilateral cooperation. On the first day, the Rector of the Technical University of Liberec, Prof. Miroslav Brzezina, and the Vice-Rector for Foreign Affairs, Prof. Kateřina Maršíková, visit the Dresden University. The second day is marked by the visit of Prof. Jaroslav Koutský, the rector of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, and Prof. Pavel Raška, the vice-rector for internationalization.
The main goal of these meetings is to renew cooperation agreements in order to expand the already successful cooperation. The TUD recognizes the highlights of the joint projects to date, including the Central European Campus Nisa/Neiße, which has been promoting intercultural learning since 2020 and has already produced 50 graduates. In the future, joint projects with the UJEP will be intensified, supported by the DAAD Eastern Partnerships.
Strategic partnerships
This initiative follows a similar meeting that already took place on November 1, 2024, when a delegation from Charles University, led by Rector Prof. Milena Králíčková, visited TUD. At this important meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding and a Cotutelle Framework Agreement on doctoral programs were signed. These agreements aim to strengthen scientific collaboration and joint projects between institutions. Representatives of the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf and the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden, who represented the exchange on the Saxon side, were also present.
The partnership between Charles University and TUD has already revealed important areas such as student exchanges and cross-border research projects. Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation in the field of microelectronics and semiconductor technology, which is receiving additional impetus from the Taiwanese investment by TSMC in Dresden.
Promoting internationalization
These latest developments are actually in line with the growing involvement of German universities in international cooperation. Universities in Germany are increasingly concentrating on developing study programs and faculties abroad. Transnational education (TNB) is perceived as an essential component of internationalization strategies in order to competitively address the issues of global education. The code for German university projects abroad, which was passed by the HRK general meeting in 2013, sets minimum qualitative and academic requirements.
Compliance with these standards positions universities as quality-conscious players in international educational competition. TUD and its partners use such guidelines to ensure that their initiatives are both academically and ethically sound.
