Young nurses in focus: exhibition and workshops in the COSMO Forum!

On August 20, 2025, the exhibition “Invisible Heroes – Between Everyday Life and Care” opened its doors in the COSMO Science Forum and will be on view until September 4, 2025. This initiative is specifically aimed at young adult carers, also known as Young Adult Carers, and highlights the challenges and realities of life of this often overlooked group. Loud TU Dresden Four young people document their experiences through impressive photographs and in-depth texts. These works have their origins in the photovoice method, which was developed as part of the “Kraft-Copilot” project at the Center for Open Digital Innovation and Participation (CODIP) at the Technical University of Dresden.

The exhibition was funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and aims to draw attention to the real life situations of young people who care for relatives. CODIP, which employs over 70 people, deals with digital media and tools in education and research in an interdisciplinary manner. In addition, the exhibition offers an extensive accompanying program that includes existing events.

Accompanying events and workshops

As part of the exhibition, two workshops will take place on August 28th and 29th, 2025. The workshop “Building blocks for tomorrow: Young nurses shape the future – workshop with LEGO® Serious Play®” will be offered on August 28th at 6:00 p.m. The event “Easy to care for?! – After work for young carers & friends” is planned for the following day, August 29th at 6:00 p.m. Both events are free, but registration via email is required. This offers young nurses not only the opportunity to network, but also to actively participate in conversations and creative processes.

In addition to the exhibition and the workshops, the association we care e.V. is organizing a digital exchange session from February 5, 2025, which is also aimed at young carers aged 18 to 35. These meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. via Zoom and are designed to provide support, exchange and answers to relevant questions. The University of Hamburg reports that the exchange rounds will be led by Kim Junker-Mogalle and Josephine Conrad, both of whom are family carers themselves and are in early adulthood.

Interactive networks and experts

The concept of these exchange rounds is to create an interactive network for young nurses. In addition to personal exchange, experts are also invited who offer valuable tips on topics such as care organization, legal questions and emotional self-care. Participation in these digital meetings is free and takes place via Zoom; Interested young carers can simply register by email.

In addition, an online information event for students and young adult carers will take place on February 24, 2025 as part of the Nursing Theme Days at the UHH in order to further promote the exchange and support young carers in their everyday lives. The commitment of both initiatives, the exhibition and the digital group meetings, illustrates the growing recognition and support for the often invisible heroes in society.
