TUCconnect career fair: Springboard into professional life for students!

The “TUCconnect Spring” career fair took place on May 22, 2025 at Chemnitz University of Technology. The event, which was organized by the university's career service team, was aimed at students and graduates. Around 70 regional and national exhibitors from various industries were present to present career entry opportunities, internships and theses topics. Services offered included, among other things, free application photos and job walls with current job advertisements. A lecture program also offered specialist lectures on relevant topics.

The trade fair was highlighted as an important step towards securing skilled workers in the region. Over 30 percent of the students at Chemnitz University of Technology are international students, which illustrates the importance of such events for integration and support. Maria Alexander, project coordinator of the Welcome Center in Chemnitz, emphasized that the students are highly motivated to gain a foothold in the regional job market. Maximilian Noack from BPG Bausuperviseds- und Projektsteuerungsgesellschaft mbH was positive about the exchange with the students and confirmed the value of the event.

Program content and offers

During the career fair, participants had the opportunity to find out about current trends and challenges when starting a career. Five informative lectures covered topics such as “Sustainability as a career opportunity” and gave tips on application documents. Sophie Oelsch from the organization team confirmed that the trade fair was successful despite a lower number of exhibitors compared to previous years. The next TUCconnect is scheduled to take place on November 12, 2025, and until then the Career Service will be available to students and graduates if they have any questions about starting a career.

The event is part of a larger trend that addresses the increasing support for international students in Germany. According to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), more and more international students want to work in Germany after graduating, but they often face challenges. The FIT program was created to help these students. This promotes the integration of international talent into studies and the job market and has been implemented in several German universities since April 2024.

Support measures for international students

The DAAD FIT program funds a total of 89 projects that aim to support international students throughout their studies. This includes measures for study preparation, social integration and support when starting a career. Examples of measures such as those offered at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Technology and other institutions include special German courses, business etiquette and workshops for intercultural skills development. The exchange between international students and alumni as well as companies is also strongly encouraged.

Overall, the “TUCconnect Spring” career fair not only shows the need for skilled workers in the region but also the solutions that are offered to support international students on their way into the world of work. Such initiatives are crucial to meet the challenges of the global labor market and to further profile the university as an attractive location for international talent.
