Katharina Schwerdt: The brilliant achievement of political scientists!

The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) has once again brought to the fore its graduates who stand out with outstanding achievements. In July 2025, Katharina Schwerdt was named graduate of the month. She has made a name for herself in the field of political science with her career as an international presenter on politics and economics. Her passion for traveling and getting to know new perspectives is reflected in her career, which has taken her to four continents. This comes from a report by TUD out.

Schwerdt successfully completed her studies at TUD and was active in the university group AEGEE during her studies. This organization promotes the connection and exchange of students from all over Europe and has taught her valuable project management skills. In an interview with TUD, she gave valuable tips for first-year students, including taking part in general studies, accompanying studies and offers in the areas of sport and culture. She particularly emphasizes involvement in university groups to network with other students and obtaining information about career paths at an early stage as well as offering advice when challenges arise.

Subject offerings and study advice

The Institute of Political Science (IFPW) at TUD specializes in dealing with political processes, phenomena and theories. The training covers various sub-areas such as political theory, international relations and empirical social research. The aim is to provide students with in-depth knowledge of how political systems work and to use social research methods. Those interested can contact the institute directly; the contact details are: Email: info@ifpw.tu-dresden.de, Telephone: +49 (0)351 463-35827. The address for personal visits is Bergstraße 53, 01069 Dresden, Germany.

The students benefit from comprehensive advisory services, such as the information from University of Tübingen, where academic advisors are available to clarify questions and offer individual support. The consultations are not only limited to bachelor's degree programs, but are also aimed at master's degree programs, internships and stays abroad. This structured approach enables students to confidently navigate their own paths in the political and social context.

A network for alumni

The TUD alumni network, led by Susann Mayer, offers graduates the opportunity to exchange ideas even after they have completed their studies. Anyone interested can contact us at: Tel. +49 351 463-36278 or via email. This network promotes the continued existence of relationships and the exchange of experiences between former fellow students, which is highly valued by graduates.

Katharina Schwerdt is not only an example of the success that an education at TUD can enable, but also a role model for all those who want to follow their passion. Her career inspires future students to become actively involved in their study community and to form networks that extend beyond their studies.
