Art and literature: Kuhlbrodt and Schneider inspire Chemnitz!

In April 2025 the literary works of Jan Kuhlbrodt and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Johannes Schneider presented at the Chemnitz University of Technology. Jan Kuhlbrodt, a native of Karl Marx Städter, is the author of the remarkable “Chemnitz Trilogy”. This trilogy, which was created between 2007 and 2022, includes three volumes that deal with important phases of life and social changes.

The first volume, “Before the Writing,” deals with Kuhlbrodt’s childhood in Karl-Marx-Stadt, while the second volume, “Schneckenparadies,” deals with his move to Frankfurt am Main and takes up the search for a fairer world during the time of reunification. The third volume, "Krüppelpassion", will be awarded the Alfred Döblin Prize 2023 and is about Kuhlbrodt's personal confrontation with his illness from multiple sclerosis, as well as the "Chronicle of an impending death", a profound topic that he treats with complex prose and a humorous approach. These texts reflect not only his life path, but also the developments in the world around him.

Readings and lectures in Chemnitz

On April 23, 2025, Kuhlbrodt will give a reading in the university library of Chemnitz University of Technology. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. and will be led by Dr. Moderated by Burkhard Müller, a Latin lecturer at the Center for Foreign Languages ​​at Chemnitz University of Technology. A special highlight could be the reading of “Krüppelpassion”, which appeals to and touches readers and listeners alike.

A week later, on April 28, 2025, there will be a lecture by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Johannes Schneider, an associate professor at the Institute for Cultural Studies at the University of Leipzig. In his book “Air to Breathe,” Schneider describes the development of libraries as “oasis of pure air” in cities that suffer from air pollution, particularly in Chemnitz. The lecture will take place at 7:00 p.m. and will not only highlight scientific aspects, but also the cultural significance of such institutions today.

Contribution to German literature

Jan Kuhlbrodt, born in 1966, not only studied philosophy and literature, but now lives as a freelance writer in Leipzig. His works are a significant contribution to contemporary German literature and illustrate the complexity of human experiences in connection with social changes.
