Running against cancer: Fundraiser on June 11th for sick children!

On June 11, 2025, the “Running Against Cancer” charity run will take place on the sports field of Chemnitz University of Technology. This important event starts at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. The patron is Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, who emphasizes the importance of supporting those affected by cancer. The aim of the run is to promote regional projects that support people suffering from cancer and at the same time raise awareness of exercise and information about the disease.

The event is open to all age groups. Individuals, teams, families, school classes and sports groups are warmly invited to take part. Participation takes place as a charity run without time measurement and without an entry fee. It is up to the participants how many laps they run and whether they contribute donations themselves or look for sponsors. The official opening will take place at 3:50 p.m. by Prof. Dr. Maximilian Eibl, Vice Rector for Teaching and International Affairs at Chemnitz University of Technology.

A diverse program

The day is well organized and includes the following program items:

  • 10:30-11:30 Uhr: Seniorenlauf für Menschen ab 65 Jahren
  • 13:00-15:00 Uhr: Sonderstartzeit für Schulklassen
  • 15:50 Uhr: Offizielle Eröffnung
  • 16:00-18:30 Uhr: Sonnenblumenlauf, Einstieg jederzeit möglich
  • Ab 18:30 Uhr: Individuelle Auswertung und Ende der Veranstaltung

Electronic lap recording is used to count the laps completed. The donations flow into various regional projects that support the following initiatives, among others:

  • Bewegungsangebote für an Krebs erkrankte Kinder, Jugendliche und Erwachsene
  • Wohngemeinschaft für Betroffene
  • Familienwochenenden der Sächsischen Krebsgesellschaft e. V.

Registration is possible online until June 10, 2025, 11:59 p.m. In addition, on-site registration on the day of the event is also permitted. Further information can be found on the fundraising run website: running-against-cancer.de.

Additional initiatives to support

There are other activities in the region aimed at supporting seriously ill children and their families. An event at the foot of the Fichtelberg in Oberwiesenthal allows participants to run individually in their hometown. It is called for to combine sporting achievements with donations to strengthen the community and promote exchange with friends and families, like the EKK Chemnitz reported.

The CCC in Tübingen also carries out numerous fundraising campaigns, which have already collected large sums for patient care in the past. In 2024, over 140,000 euros were raised, which will go towards nutritional advice and therapeutic offers, among other things. Individual initiatives such as the orchestra quiz, which were supported by the Youth and Seniors Foundation of the Kreissparkasse Tübingen, show the community's commitment to families suffering from cancer. Another example is the invitation to Legoland for 30 KikE families who otherwise would not have been able to afford this trip, shared the Tübingen Tumor Center with.

All of these actions make it clear how important it is to stand up for those affected and to offer help in difficult times. The willingness to support is noticeable in the region and will be further strengthened by the upcoming events.
