Light art festival Light our Vision”: Chemnitz shines from September 24th!
The light art festival “Light our Vision” promises a spectacular reinterpretation of urban space when it takes place in Chemnitz from September 24th to 27th, 2025. The opening ceremony begins every day at 7:30 p.m. and continues until late in the evening. Over the four days, nine different locations will feature impressive light art installations.
The locations include iconic places in the city such as the facade of the University Library of Chemnitz University of Technology, the Red Tower, the Stadthallenpark, the Congress Hotel, the Karl Marx Monument, Marienplatz, the Opera House as well as Schillerplatz and the trees at Schillerplatz. Each light installation will be on view for approximately five to ten minutes, with 15-minute breaks between performances.
International artists and social issues
The festival features a variety of international artists presenting their work from nearly 100 submissions to choose from. Artists from Indonesia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy and Germany will artistically reinterpret urban space and thus draw attention to topics such as urban development and social change. These aspects are the focus of the event and convey a deeper message about the state of today's cities.
Particularly noteworthy is the artistic design of the university library, for which the Magical Theater from New Delhi is responsible. In addition, the results of surveys on urban development in Chemnitz are presented in the form of light art at six portals on Marienplatz, which underlines the connection between art and social participation.
Organizational details and traffic information
The event is looking for volunteers to help with set-up and dismantling and as contact persons during the festival. During the event, certain streets, including Brückenstraße and Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße, will be closed to traffic between 6 p.m. and midnight. However, the bus station remains accessible to guests.
The university library is open until 6 p.m. on the days of the event, so that visitors and interested parties can enjoy the atmosphere of the library until the light installations open. For additional information and current updates, we recommend checking out the festival's official website.
The light art festival “Light our Vision” in Chemnitz not only stands for creative art projects, but also for a dialogue about development and life in urban spaces. An event that appeals to art lovers and city dwellers alike.
