Getting girls excited about technology: Robot AG starts in Dresden!
On August 19, 2025, the Cluster of Excellence Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop (CeTI) at the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) will start an exciting program for young girls. The “Girls for Robotics” working group invites students in grades 7 to 10 to work on robotics and innovative technologies every Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from September 23, 2025 to June 23, 2026. The program is aimed at 16 participants and aims to generate enthusiasm for MINT careers.
The offer not only includes basic programming knowledge and the demonstration of artificial intelligence, but also practical experiences such as excursions to Saxon companies and visits to technical museums. Encounters with founders of the digital industry are also planned, who can offer the girls insights into the professional world.
Promoting MINT skills
The “Girls for Robotics” working group aims to increase young women’s interest in MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology). Participants will not only be familiarized with the basics of robotics, but also with demonstrators such as Boston Dynamics Spots. There is also the opportunity to gain practical experience on numerous excursions to companies in the MINT sector.
Registration for the working group is done by email to ceti@tu-dresden.de. Participants must provide their name, school, grade level and the contact details of a responsible person. A signed data protection declaration and permission to use photos are also required. If you have any questions about the program, you can contact Jessica Gollmann directly at jessica.gollmann@tu-dresden.de.
Background and social relevance
The “Girls for Robotics” initiative is in the context of an urgent problem in Germany: the lack of young talent with MINT qualifications. Loud mintzukunftschaffen.de The structural deficit of scientifically and technically qualified specialists is a serious risk for Germany as a business location. Both the academic sector and specialists with vocational training are particularly affected, which leads to a loss of added value.
A central concern of the educational initiatives is to increase the number of qualified applicants for MINT training occupations and study programs and to reduce barriers in the education sector. STEM education promotes equal opportunities as well as creative and innovative skills, which not only benefits the students but also society as a whole. The “Creating the MINT Future!” initiative is an essential partner and offers a platform for various individual MINT initiatives.
With measures such as the “MINT-friendly school” program and the monthly survey of the MINT gap, we are actively working to inspire more young people to take MINT courses. The focus should be on women in particular, as increasing the number of new students in these areas is considered particularly necessary.
In collaboration with institutions such as the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden, the Dresden University of Technology and Economics, TUD's Robotics AG, the Fraunhofer Institute for Transport and Infrastructure Systems and various start-ups, CeTI makes an important contribution to promoting MINT skills among young women.
