OstVISION Youth Conference: Perspectives for the future of young people!
The OstVISION youth conference will take place in Chemnitz on October 8, 2025, which is aimed at young people from all over Eastern Germany. The core theme of the event is “Stay or go? Prospects for young people in the East”. This is reported by the TU Chemnitz. Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025, will serve as an event location and offer young people the opportunity to actively work on their future.
The conference will feature numerous activities, including workshops on topics such as graffiti, DIY screen printing and craft stations, as well as a poetry slam. Participants can also take part in discussions about leisure activities, sports, inner city design and opportunities for training and study. The event concludes with a party with a DJ and a wide range of activities designed to promote the interest and creativity of the young people.
Diverse opportunities to get involved
Away from the conference, a kick-off workshop will take place on April 6th in the office of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. This is aimed at young people between the ages of 14 and 26 and is intended to enable them to help shape the youth conference. When registering, which is now available at www.ostvision.de If possible, snacks and music are also guaranteed, while travel expenses are covered. The aim is to form an organizing crew of around ten people who will meet up to five times in Chemnitz to plan the guests, process, topics and activities of the conference.
The organization is supported by the German Children and Youth Foundation, together with the city of Chemnitz and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. A framework for sustainability and education
The event as part of the Capital of Culture year also stands for education and sustainable development. The central student advisory service at Chemnitz University of Technology presents over 100 study options, while the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers a sustainability experiment in which granules are made from leftover parts. These initiatives underline the commitment to a future-oriented training landscape in the region.
The OstVISION youth conference takes place as part of the “BETONBLÜHEN” festival, which will take place for five days. Admission to the conference is free, but registration is required. The event also secured support from the city of Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture team.
The importance of the European Capital of Culture is also highlighted by the youth participation initiatives. These are intended not only to strengthen the young people's sense of belonging, but also to offer them the opportunity to formulate their ideas about the attractiveness of East Germany. The history of the Capitals of Culture, which was launched in 1985, shows that such events can bring a positive boost to tourism and an improvement in image. Over 60 cities have received this title so far and are benefiting sustainably from it European Capitals of Culture Initiative clarified.
