Pinpoint GmbH: Saxony's rising star in the 2025 start-up competition!

Pinpoint GmbH, a spin-off from Chemnitz University of Technology, is one of the most promising start-ups in Saxony. On May 6, 2025, the company was nominated for the special award “Saxony is founded - Start-up 2025”, and the online voting to determine the winner will run until May 11, 2025. The award ceremony is planned for May 16, 2025 in Volkswagen's Transparent Factory in Dresden and is endowed with media services worth 60,000 euros. Loud tu-chemnitz.de The company's innovative concept plays a decisive role in its award.

Pinpoint GmbH was founded in 2021 by Dr. Marko Rößler, Dr. Thomas Graichen and Daniel Froß founded. With the support of EXIST research transfer funding from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, the team has hired 17 employees. Their main goal is to develop precise indoor navigation that works through smartphones with ultra-wideband technology (UWB). This technology promises centimeter-level accuracy and could revolutionize the way users navigate large indoor spaces.

Technological innovation and fields of application

The UWB technology used by Pinpoint GmbH offers significant advantages compared to existing indoor navigation technologies. Many of these technologies are unable to provide the required accuracy, scalability and privacy. In crowded situations, such as subways at rush hour or shopping malls on crowded weekends, there is an urgent need for a reliable and untracked indoor navigation service.

With UWB untracked navigation, an enormous number of user devices can be supported simultaneously without affecting location determination. This technology requires a minimal number of messages and allows for easy, cost-effective installation of UWB anchors at planned locations. Another significant advantage is the protection of users' personal information. With UWB technology, the location of the user device is determined by the device itself, which means privacy is maintained and unwanted tracking by third parties is eliminated, as in pinpoint.de is presented.

Education and start-up support in Saxony

Saxony is proving to be fertile ground for start-ups and innovative companies. The Zittau/Görlitz University (HSZG) supports this trend with numerous programs in the areas of business, technology and healthcare. The university places a strong focus on research, particularly in areas such as energy, economics and social transformation processes, which provides an ideal basis for the development of new technologies. It also offers career services, including a startup academy and mentoring programs designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs successfully implement their ideas, as on startups-saxony.de is to be read.

Overall, Pinpoint GmbH is a shining example of the innovative strength of the Saxon start-up scene, and its nomination for the “Saxony Founds – Start-up 2025” award underlines the potential of its technologies and solutions. The path to the awards ceremony will be followed with excitement as the future of the company looks promising.
