Successes and challenges
Prof. Dr. However, Uwe Götze, Vice Rector for Transfer and Continuing Education at Chemnitz University of Technology, sees further potential in terms of the number of curricular events and incentive structures to promote start-ups. There is still room for development here that can be exploited in the future.
The successes are due not least to the “SAXEED” start-up network and the “TUClab”. Since 2006, SAXEED has supported over 1,750 start-up projects at four universities in Saxony, of which more than 570 have resulted in successful start-ups. This network not only promotes the culture of independence, but also entrepreneurial thinking at universities. The alliance between Chemnitz University of Technology, Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, Zwickau University of Applied Sciences and the TU Bergakademie Freiberg has existed for 15 years and uses synergy effects to sustainably improve start-up support.
Diverse support offers
SAXEED offers a comprehensive range of entrepreneurship services. This includes lectures and workshops on topics such as business model development, business planning, start-up financing and B2B marketing. Prospective founders also receive individual advice and support in finding business ideas. An integral part of the network activities is scouting, in which SAXEED employees actively search for potential founders.
The collaboration between the four partner universities is regulated by formal cooperation agreements and is comprehensively supported by cross-location working groups. The regular exchange, which takes place every two weeks, helps to ensure unity in start-up support at the universities.
The “TUClab”, which was launched in 2018, complements these initiatives by offering start-up funding, access to infrastructure and integration into transfer and mentoring networks. The contribution of Dr. Susanne Schübel, SAXEED project manager, on these successes is of central importance and offers interested founders valuable support.
