Chemnitz University of Technology starts a new bachelor’s degree in data science – apply now!
From the winter semester of 2025/26, Chemnitz University of Technology will introduce a new bachelor's degree program entitled “Foundations in Data Science”. This English-taught degree program was created to meet the growing demand for specialists in the field of data science. The need for such specialists is still high in Germany, but there are only a few specialized programs for data science, such as tu-chemnitz.de reported.
A central feature of the new course offering is the strong focus on the mathematical foundations and techniques required to solve modern data-based challenges. Essential skills such as logical and abstract thinking, analytical procedures and precise communication are taught. In addition, Chemnitz University of Technology places particular emphasis on teamwork and perseverance, which come into play in interdisciplinary projects between mathematics and applied sciences.
Course content and admission
The course content in the new degree program covers a variety of subject areas, including measurement and integration theories, vector analysis, ordinary differential equations, probability and mathematical statistics, as well as specific courses on data science. There are no admission restrictions for admission to the course, although the Faculty of Mathematics recommends taking a subject-specific entrance test before applying. An optional preparatory course at high school level is also available via online practice tools.
International applicants have until July 15, 2025 to enroll, while for German students the deadline is September 19, 2025. Another positive aspect of the course is the integrated German training. This means that students who do not have basic knowledge of the German language are trained through mandatory German language modules depending on their language level (A1–B1+). This measure not only promotes the language skills of foreign students, but also supports German students in improving their English skills daad.de supplemented.
Career prospects
Graduates of the new bachelor's degree program have excellent career opportunities. You can enter the job market directly or pursue a master's degree, for example in the field of “Data Science” at Chemnitz University of Technology. Potential fields of work include data analysis, business intelligence, software development, artificial intelligence, as well as industries such as the automotive industry and smart mobility.
The lecture times of the course are divided into two main blocks: from April 7, 2025 to July 18, 2025 and from October 13, 2025 to February 6, 2026.
