TU Dresden impresses with a new brand identity: creatively shaping the future!

The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) presented its new brand identity on September 10, 2025, under the motto "The Collaborative University - inventive. transformative. engaged." company. This new concept is intended not only to support the strategic goals of the TUD, but also to express a clear self-image of the institution. Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger emphasizes the central role of the new corporate design in positioning the university as a university of excellence.

TUD pursues the goal of finding transformative solutions to challenges of the 21st century. To achieve this, a participatory process was launched in which over 1,500 people participated through an online survey. The result is four core brand values: Collaboration, Inventiveness, Transformative and Engagement, which reflect the university's guiding principles.

Renewal of brand identity

A new logo that displays an octagonal shape symbolizes the values of openness, cooperation and diversity. This visual renewal is accompanied by a uniform corporate design and web design that follow a clear visual and formal language. TUD positions itself as a university of excellence that combines top academic achievements with social responsibility in order to pursue its ambitions in a national and international context.

The Technical University of Dresden was founded in 1828 and is one of the largest technical universities in Germany with 17 faculties and 119 degree programs. As a university of excellence, it pursues a comprehensive overall strategy called “TUD 2028 – Synergy and beyond”, which is part of the excellence strategy. The aim of this strategy is to develop an internationally visible and regionally anchored institution that is one of the five best-performing universities in Germany.

Research and academic ambitions

The TUD focuses on five research areas: health sciences, biomedicine and bioengineering; information technology and microelectronics; materials science and engineering; energy, mobility and environment; and culture and social change. These priorities are in line with the aim of increasing the university's influence in science, business and society.

To achieve this, measures to promote talent are implemented at all career levels. At the same time, the aim is to expand research fields and collaborations. The university actively seeks dialogue and participation in the spirit of the “Dresden Spirit”, which has a special place within the TUD academic community.

The variety of subjects at TUD includes engineering, natural sciences, humanities, cultural and social sciences as well as medicine. The university's other goals include establishing international partnerships, particularly with universities in countries such as Argentina, Australia, Canada and China, to promote global exchange and support future research projects.

In the dynamic landscape of German universities, the Technical University of Dresden positions itself not only as an educational institution, but also as a catalyst for social change. With its new identity and its broad range of research, the university shows a clear course into the future and a willingness to actively participate in the major issues of our time.
