TUD strengthens international alumni: New ways for a strong network!
On March 8, 2025, the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) published the latest issue of the alumni magazine “Kontakt-online”. The current issue is dedicated to the role of international alumni in the university identity of TUD. These alumni are active not only in Germany, but in many countries on all continents and act as ambassadors for their alma mater. In an interview, TUD Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger commented on the proactive support and approach of these alumni.
Particularly noteworthy is a report on the careers of selected alumni in the San Francisco Bay Area. This section also highlights the recently founded Alumni Chapter in this region, which is intended to strengthen contact between former students and the university.
Alumni associations as networks
Alumni associations, like those supported by TUD, are organizations of former students that promote contact and networking. These clubs offer local and international activities and provide a platform for personal development and professional networking. Members benefit from workshops, continuing education programs and seminars specifically designed to expand their skills.
Participation in informative events enables alumni to exchange ideas with specialists and experts, which is a valuable source of knowledge and new contacts for many. The network is particularly important for newly arrived members in order to quickly develop a feeling of belonging.
Active participation and internet skills
Active alumni are encouraged to take part in events and volunteer work. This not only promotes personal ties, but also the network as a whole. A regular flow of information about news and upcoming events often takes place via newsletters, which keeps members up to date.
Social media has also become more important in the alumni network. Platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook are essential tools for connecting members with each other. In addition, legal aspects such as participation conditions and membership fees should be taken into account so that membership runs smoothly.
TUD is aware of the importance of these networks and works closely with them to promote individual and social development. Not only the existing programs are available to alumni, but also tailor-made further training measures that are tailored to the needs of the members.

Overall, it appears that alumni associations represent a valuable resource for personal and professional development, but require active participation and commitment from members. The future direction of these networks is likely to be shaped by technological advances and social trends, which will create new opportunities for ex-alumni to interact.
