TUD mourns Christiane Schaufler-Münch: A life's work for science!

The Technical University of Dresden mourns the loss of Christiane Schaufler-Münch, who died on April 16, 2025 at the age of 90. As co-founder of the SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION she has made a decisive contribution to promoting the TU Dresden since 2009. The foundation supports important projects at the university, such as the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden, which promotes interdisciplinary dialogue between science, art and society.

The Schaufler FOUNDATION also initiated the Schaufler Professorship for Refrigeration, Cryo and Compressor Technology and the Germany Scholarship at the TU Dresden. She is also involved in the new building of the Dresden University School. On March 12, 2025, the Senate of the TU Dresden decided to posthumously award Christiane Schaufler-Münch honorary citizen of the university. In this context, the Rector of the TUD, Prof. Ursula Staudinger, praised Schaufler-Münch's commitment to the university and the variety of initiatives she supported.

Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden

The Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden is a joint project between the Technical University of Dresden and the SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION. As part of a six-month Artist in Residence, which is advertised for 2025, participants can expect the opportunity to artistically explore the guiding theme “Data↔Worlds”. This second funding phase of the project runs from 2024 to 2027 and examines the social implications of new technologies.

The Schaufler Residency not only offers artists a scholarship of 3,000 euros net per month, but also access to the extensive resources of the University of Excellence and collaborations with scientists. A production grant of 10,000 euros for the final exhibition and a solo exhibition in the Custodian Gallery in autumn 2025 complete the offer.
