Shaping the future: Science and art in dialogue at TU Dresden!
The Schaufler Lab at TU Dresden is planning two important events in September and October 2025 that will deal with social transformation processes in the context of data. This is done in cooperation with THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION and aims to promote an interdisciplinary exchange between science, art and society.
The first event, the conference entitled “Performing Transformation: Shifting Landscapes in Art, Science, and Technology,” will take place on September 29 and 30, 2025. Over 30 international contributions from various disciplines have been announced. The focus is on performative knowledge transfer and exploring shifting boundaries between art and science. Highlights of the conference are talks, workshops and artistic presentations, including by the artists Susanne Kriemann and Mario Pfeifer. A keynote speech will be given by the renowned scientist Antonia Majaca. The event is organized by inter- and transdisciplinary institutions at TU Dresden and receives support from the Walter De Gruyter Foundation. Registrations are possible until September 25, 2025.
Symposium on Generativity and AI
A week later, on October 7, 2025, the “Unpacking Generativity” symposium will take place. This event is organized by the Schaufler Kolleg at TU Dresden and primarily focuses on aspects of generativity, artificial intelligence (AI) and artistic-scientific research. A focus is on questions of authorship, materiality and methodological innovations. The symposium is intended to promote network formation and the internationalization of the participants. Registrations are possible until October 2, 2025.
The focus is also on initiatives and publications in the context of transdisciplinary and participatory research, whose importance for social change is increasingly being recognized. A working paper by Schäfer et al. (2025), published by the GTPF in Berlin, discusses the effects of these research approaches. This is supplemented by numerous scientific articles and workshops that point out the evaluation and design of transdisciplinary research, such as the work by Wiefek et al. (2024) and Nagy & Schäfer (2021) in various specialist journals. This increases awareness of the social effects of transdisciplinary approaches. TU Dresden reports that... The events at TU Dresden are part of a larger trend that emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary thinking and action in an increasingly complex world. The combination of art, science and technology creates new opportunities for creative solutions in society.
