Education offensive in Schleswig-Holstein: Discover the future of agriculture!
On September 9, 2025, the second edition of the educational catalog was presented as part of the “Agriculture, Nutrition and Consumer Protection” (BiLEV) educational offensive. The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Areas, Consumer Protection and Europe (MLLEV) and the Ministry of Education are key players in the initiative. This second edition includes a total of 204 educational offers for students at secondary levels I and II in Schleswig-Holstein. 135 companies are already taking part in the education offensive, and the trend is increasing.
The educational catalog combines theory with practice along the food value chain. The main goal of the educational offerings is to develop young people into responsible citizens with sound nutritional skills. The catalog also offers expanded options for curricular connection to various teaching subjects, including career orientation.
Diverse educational offerings
A central feature of the BiLEV initiative is that every educational offer is linked to at least one of the sustainability goals. The Nutrition and Consumer Education department assumes responsibility for concept development, didactic processing and evaluation of the project. The aim is to provide a comprehensive offer for all students at secondary levels I and II in Schleswig-Holstein in the coming school year.
The educational offensive aims to become better known nationwide. BiLEV, which stands for education for sustainable development in agriculture and nutrition, is aimed at young people to impart knowledge about modern agriculture, healthy food production and climate-conscious nutrition. The main topics include agriculture, nutrition and consumer protection.
Authentic learning and collaborations
The educational formats promote the students’ decision-making skills and establish concrete connections to their everyday lives. Offers are developed at authentic learning locations, such as farms, bakeries and restaurants. In cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection as well as the Ministry of Education, the project is also supported by the European University of Flensburg in concept development and project management.
The educational offerings are quality assured and can be both subject-related and interdisciplinary. Extracurricular learning opportunities are accompanied individually by teaching concepts. The opening event of the education offensive took place in May 2023 at the “Hof Steffen” farm in Muxall. For example, students visit dairy farms and learn a lot about milk production.
BiLEV is looking for additional agricultural and processing businesses as well as catering businesses to serve as learning locations. The offer is free for schools, although small costs for food may apply. Bookings are made directly through the teachers, who contact the providers. All educational offers can be booked for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 school year.
During their stay at the learning locations, the students are insured against accidents, which offers additional security. The educational offensive is intended not only to impart knowledge, but also to promote a practical approach to the crucial issues of the 21st century.
