NOW time: Experience analogue diversity in Lübeck from September 30th to October 5th!

An extraordinary event is announced in Lübeck: From September 30th to October 5th, 2025, the “JETZTzeit – Offline in St. Petri” campaign will take place in the St. Petri University Church. Every day from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays even until 11 p.m., interested parties are invited to hand in their smartphones and embark on a wonderful journey into the analogue world. Admission is free and is intended to give participants a break from the digital hustle and bustle.

The concept of the event is simple but effective: upon arrival, participants put down their smartphones and have the opportunity to take part in a variety of analogue activities. Musical performances by students from the Lübeck University of Music, workshops with physiotherapy students from the University of Lübeck and interesting discussions with researchers are on the program. There are also many games and books that invite you to linger. A highlight is the special nightly performance “analog_digital” on Saturday, October 4th, at 11 p.m., which combines words, music and spatial staging.

The importance of digital detox

The “JETZTzeit” event is part of a growing trend focused on digital detoxification. In a world where people pick up their phones an average of 50-80 times a day, it's no surprise that digital addiction can lead to stress and digital burnout. Tips for less screen time and a more alert life can be found on platforms that specialize in digital detoxification. This includes, among other things, internalizing the benefits of smartphone-free time, such as better sleep and greater concentration.

Visitors to the event have the chance to consciously switch off. At “JETZTzeit” the benefits of digital detox can be experienced by focusing on analogue activities and personal interactions. The initiators, who also include Lübeck Hoch Drei and various Lübeck universities, want to promote healthy usage behavior and reduce the pressure of constant accessibility.

Project details and supporting institutions

The university church of St. Petri at the Petrikirchhof in Lübeck will be the setting for this project, which brings together numerous partners from education and culture. In addition to the University of Lübeck and the Lübeck University of Music, the Lübeck University of Technology as well as the bookseller Hugendubel and creative networks such as Ludo Liubice e.V. and the Scalable Design Office are also involved.
