Safe care for children: event on patient safety in Lübeck!
The issue of patient safety is becoming increasingly important, especially in today's healthcare landscape. On September 16, 2025, an event under the motto “Patient safety concerns us all” will take place in Lübeck. The event, which is organized by the Research and Teaching in Nursing Section at the University of Lübeck, begins at 4 p.m. in the Skills Space of the Transition House at Königstrasse 56. In addition to citizens, students are also invited to talk together about an important issue in health care. This event is considered a prelude to Global Patient Safety Day, which will be celebrated worldwide one day later, on September 17, 2025, and was proclaimed by the World Health Organization (WHO). uni-luebeck.de reports that the event aims to raise awareness as well as actively engage the community.
World Patient Safety Day, celebrated annually on September 17th since 2019, has several goals. These include increasing public awareness and commitment to patient safety and improving understanding among the public and professionals. In addition, global solidarity is promoted to address specific patient safety issues. This year's WHO motto is: “Safe care for every newborn and every child”. The safe care of children is particularly addressed here, as they are particularly vulnerable and require special attention in medical care. tag-der-patientensicherheit.de emphasizes that parents, carers and pediatricians and obstetricians are invited to share their experiences and develop solutions together.
Process and initiatives on World Day
To properly celebrate World Patient Safety Day, a special event will take place in Berlin or online on September 16, 2025, with entry starting at 9:00 a.m. The official part starts at 9:45 a.m. and is expected to end around 5:15 p.m. Participation is free, but prior registration is required. This event is held under the patronage of the German Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine. V. (DGKJ). The Aktionsbündnis Patient Safety e.V., which was founded in 2005, brings its expertise and network to promote the cause. The Federal Ministry of Health actively supports these measures with resources and materials to improve patient safety and publicize the campaigns. aps-ev.de also points out a planned photo campaign on social networks, in which participation is encouraged by using the hashtags #worlddaypatientsafety and #patientsafety.
Another highlight is the call to illuminate well-known buildings in orange in order to send a highly visible signal of awareness of the issue of patient safety. This is intended to both reach people and focus on the essential importance of safe patient care.
