Bauhaus University Weimar: Grand opening and interactive exhibitions!
Significant construction work is underway on the Coudray campus and in the lecture hall building at the Bauhaus University Weimar, which will contribute to the upcoming “summaery2025” event. This annual show will take place from July 10th to 13th, 2025, and engineers will present their latest projects at various locations. In addition to innovative architecture, the event also offers a variety of interactive activities designed to invite the audience to gain new perspectives on architecture.
The special highlights include a pop-up exhibition at Goetheplatz, the opening of the “Strohballenturm LAB” on July 11th at 12 p.m., and an open-air clothing exchange on campus. The renovations also include barrier-free redesigns, while Coudraystrasse 7 will be reopened after extensive renovation and the new laboratory building at Coudraystrasse 13 is already under construction.
Variety of events
The event includes innovative concepts such as plant walls in the seminar building and interactive performances. Particular attention is paid to the two-story experimental straw bale tower, which was built using load-bearing straw bale construction. Exhibitions on renewable raw materials such as clay, wood and bamboo are presented here. Geotechnical engineers and building materials engineers also provide information about heat damage on roads.
For those interested in technology, there will be exciting performances, including the construction site robot “SPOT” and a 3D printed Pelton turbine. A hammock made from recycled clothing will be found in an open area near X-Stahl. The clothing exchange campaign is carried out in cooperation with “Tex.Turn” and “Schenke – Umsonstladen Weimar e. V.” carried out and enables visitors to change their wardrobe sustainably.
Bauhaus as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Bauhaus University Weimar, which was founded in 1923, has established itself as an important educational institution and is a central location of the Bauhaus movement. The Bauhaus itself is not only a place of creative exchange, but also one of the globally recognized UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Bauhaus Museum in Weimar serves as a space for open encounters and discussions about the past and present of design.
In addition, the Bauhaus Energy Hub with its vertiKKA test facility will be opened to the public on July 11th at 2 p.m. Visitors gain insights into experimental wooden construction systems, gray water treatment and facade greening, while practical work with wood, clay and slate is offered in the inner courtyard of Coudraystrasse 11.
Preparations are in full swing and the event program booklet is recommended to find out about everything on offer. Information and activities related to the Bauhaus are available at any time and invite you to explore and honor the legacy of this unique movement.
