On October 15, 2025 took place at the University of Weimar The ceremonial matriculation ceremony took place, at which new students were warmly welcomed and outstanding achievements were recognized. In the festive atmosphere of the Maurice Halbwachs Auditorium, President Prof. Peter Benz presented the 2025 University Awards to several talented award winners.
The awards included achievements in both academic work and artistic projects. The award winners include Linus Baumhove and Leon Mones for their master’s thesis “The Land of Small-scale” from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism. Endegena Ayalew Zelelew received the prize for the master’s thesis “Soil-structure interaction during earthquake loading: shaking table tests and numerical modeling” from the Faculty of Construction and Environment. A special mention deserves Celine Loesche, who was honored for her artistic-practical thesis “The Story of the Stones — an Anthology,” even though she was not present. Felix Brieden rounded off the list of prize winners with his master's thesis "The lines of flight of the figure. Werner Wolff and the experiment of alienation", which he wrote in the Media Faculty.
Matriculation ceremony at Humboldt University
On October 13, 2025 the Humboldt University of Berlin a matriculation ceremony in the impressive Humboldt Forum. From 2 p.m., an information market in the Schlüterhof offered comprehensive information about support offers for new students. At 4:00 p.m. the HU President, Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal, the new students with an inspiring speech.
The program also included speeches from the student council, musical performances from the HU Chamber Choir and a modern performance from beatboxer Mando Beatbox. An interactive element of the celebration was the presentation by a scientific team from the Aldershof campus, which reported on innovative football-playing robots.
A look into the past
The matriculation ceremony at Humboldt University is a tradition that lasts until its last event in Palace of the Republic reaches back. In 2024, the celebration was held in the Humboldt Forum for the first time. Over 7,700 students registered there for the winter semester. Special features such as free tours of the Ethnological Collection and the Humboldt Laboratory were part of the event program.
The ceremony was streamed live on YouTube and broadcast on on-site screens, adding a modern touch to the celebration. In recent years, general student advice has also become increasingly digitalized, with online information events that began on September 29, 2025.
Overall, these celebrations reflect the dynamism and creative spirit of the two universities, which promote not only education but also the development of innovation and artistic expression.
