European University Alliance: Weimar becomes the center of education!
On March 11, 2025, the European university alliance “BAUHAUS4EU” was launched at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Representatives from ten universities were present at this festive launch. On March 11, 2025, the European university alliance “BAUHAUS4EU” was launched at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Representatives from ten universities were present at this festive launch. The alliance has set itself the goal of placing issues such as sustainability, inclusion and digital innovation at the center of its work. In this context, University President Prof. Peter Benz and Thuringia's Science Minister Christian Tischner emphasized the vision of a sustainable European education in their speeches.
The alliance is intended to appeal to over 124,000 students and offer them the opportunity to actively participate in the diverse educational offerings. A key aspect is financial support: the alliance receives 14.4 million euros from EU funds and is supported by national co-financing. Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAD), which provides additional funds.
Innovations and digital possibilities
A central element of “BAUHAUS4EU” is the planned “BAUHAUS4EU Digital Campus”. This is intended to develop innovative teaching and learning formats and make academic exchange in Europe significantly easier. Through interdisciplinary curricula and flexible study programs, the initiatives contribute to the creation of European degrees and micro-certificates. The aim is to optimally prepare future generations for the global labor market.
A networking event in the main building of the university gave those involved in the project and regional partners the opportunity to exchange ideas. Prof. Benz emphasized the positive effects of international cooperation on regional development. He emphasized that such collaborations not only benefit students, but can also advance the region's economic and cultural development.
Strengthening European identity
Minister Christian Tischner addressed the need to promote European identity while strengthening the drive for innovation in different regions. “BAUHAUS4EU” is supported by a total of eleven specialized working groups that deal with various European future topics. This interdisciplinary orientation shows the alliance's ambition to create a sustainable basis for the European universities of the future.
Overall, the founding of “BAUHAUS4EU” symbolizes a significant step towards networked, inclusive and sustainable education in Europe.
