Guest lecture in Erfurt: Church reform under the gaze of Zulehner!

The Theological Research College at the University of Erfurt invites you to a relevant guest lecture on Tuesday, May 6th. The speaker is Univ.-Prof. GDR. Paul Michael Zulehner, a retired pastoral theologian from Vienna. The lecture is entitled "Turning times. Tasks and opportunities for church structural reform" and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Coelicum, Domstrasse 10, Erfurt. Admission to this event is free.

In his lecture, Zulehner will emphasize that the churches are at a crucial turning point, which is also the subject of his latest book. He emphasizes the urgent need for reforms in order to create a church shape appropriate to the Gospel. Zulehner advocates a transition from a traditionally structured “priestly church” to a “baptismal calling church”.

From the priest's church to the baptismal vocation church

In the “baptismal calling church” all baptized people are viewed as equal in dignity and calling. This approach promotes an egalitarian structure within the ecclesial community, which Zulehner considers necessary to meet the contemporary needs and expectations of believers. During the lecture he will also present his theses and the underlying surveys that support his argument.

The discussion about structural reforms within the churches has become more important in recent years. Not only is the Catholic Church facing challenges, but other denominations are also facing the need to reinvent themselves to remain more relevant to members.

Invitation to participate

Zulehner's lecture offers a valuable opportunity for anyone interested to engage with current developments within the church and the associated reform ideas. The term “turning point” not only refers to the current challenges, but also to the opportunities associated with the necessary changes.

The event is aimed at students, church members and anyone interested in the future of religious communities. Zulehner's insights and ideas promise to enrich the discussion about the future direction of churches in Germany and beyond.

Anyone who would like to take part in the lecture can come directly to the Coelicum. The Theological Research College at the University of Erfurt is looking forward to active participation and a stimulating exchange on the important topics of church structural reform.
