Graphic design in focus: The best posters from the competition in Weimar!
The “100 best posters. Germany Austria Switzerland” competition honors outstanding poster design and this year is characterized by an exciting selection process. A total of 2,509 posters from 711 submitters took part in a two-stage selection process, the first round of which took place in February 2025. The international jury selected the outstanding works in the online portal. This jury changes annually and in the current 2024 season is made up of five members: Adeline Mollard (Zurich), Anouk Rehorek (Studio Anouk Rehorek, Vienna), Hans Günter Schmitz (Schmitz Visual Communication, Wuppertal), Stephanie Specht (Specht Studio, Antwerp) and Jonas Wandeler (Atlas Studio, Zurich). University of Weimar reports that the selected posters will be published in exhibitions and in the yearbook “100 Best Posters 24”.
The jury meeting to select the best posters will take place after the first results of the online preselection are incorporated into the decision-making process by February 21, 2025. Submissions must be sent to the jury in printed form in order to be considered in the selection process. The aim of the competition is to make special achievements in poster design from Germany, Austria and Switzerland accessible to a broad audience. The award-winning works then go on a worldwide exhibition tour.
Exhibition and opening times
The selected posters from the current competition will be shown in an exhibition at the Kulturforum, which opens on June 12, 2025. This is open to everyone without an invitation and entry is free. This three-week presentation will feature the best work of 2024. Museum portal Berlin emphasizes that the exhibition serves as a platform to present the latest graphic design.
The works of students from the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Weimar deserve special attention. Helene Dennewitz designed the “Pommes&chlor” poster, which was produced using offset printing and measuring 70 x 50 cm. This work was supervised by Markus Weisbeck and Adrian Palko. Equally impressive is the poster for the “Bauhaus Master Lectures”, designed by Ossian Osborne and made using screen printing technology in cyan and bronze (70 x 100 cm), also under the guidance of Palko and Marcel Saidov.
Overall, the competition is not just a competition, but also an opportunity to recognize and promote the poster design of young talent in the DACH region. Further information about the submissions and the background can be found on the official website of the competition, 100 best posters, to find.
