AI revolutionizes history: lectures in Erfurt!
The city of Erfurt and the local universities are setting an example for the promotion of knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). In the summer semester of 2024, a lecture series was launched that deals with the diverse aspects of AI. This event will continue in 2025 and offers a platform for exchange between science and the public.
The lectures will take place on a total of eight dates, each Tuesday from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., in the ballroom of the Erfurt town hall. The speakers come from various educational institutions, including the University of Erfurt, the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences as well as the International Vocational Academy (iba), the International University and the Health and Medical University. This diversity of perspectives promises a multifaceted discussion on the topic.
The last lecture and its meaning
The last lecture of the lecture series is planned for July 1, 2025, with Prof. Dr. Anna Neovesky will captivate the audience with her topic “Use of artificial intelligence in historical science”. This exciting talk will discuss how AI can provide new insights into historical events and developments. The speaker also addresses how scientific work is changing through the use of AI, particularly with regard to the search for information, the evaluation of sources and the interpretation and analysis of historical data.
An important aspect of this discussion are the ethical issues and limitations associated with the practical implementation of AI. This topic focuses on the responsibility that researchers and developers have when dealing with AI, especially when it comes to processing and interpreting history. These insights are important not only for the scientists themselves, but also for the general public, who are increasingly confronted with AI technologies.
Access and Participation
Admission to the lectures is free for anyone interested, but the number of seats is limited to 180. This ensures that active participation and discussion is possible. The lecture series is therefore an excellent example of how artificial intelligence is not only discussed in theory, but also tested in practice in order to enrich historical research.
