Important election update: Faculty Council and Senate will vote online from September 9th!

On August 30, 2025, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering will take place University of Weimar important supplementary elections to the Faculty Council and Senate will take place. These elections serve to fill replacement positions in several committees, including the Faculty Council of University Lecturers, the Faculty Council of Technical and Administrative Employees and the Senate of Academic Employees.

The term of office of the newly elected members begins on October 1, 2025. The actual online election will take place from September 9 to 11, 2025. Members of the relevant groups in the electoral area are entitled to vote. The election portal is available for voting, which can be used to vote using various devices such as smartphones, notebooks or computers. This enables flexible and barrier-free participation.

  • Online-Wahl: 9. September (ab 9 Uhr) – 11. September (bis 23:59 Uhr)
  • Bekanntgabe der vorläufigen Wahlergebnisse: 12. September 2025
  • Bekanntgabe der amtlichen Wahlergebnisse: 15. September 2025

The constituent meeting of the new committee is planned for October 2025. The election procedures are majority voting, although individual nominations are permitted. Interested candidates can nominate themselves or be nominated from their own group.

Technical aspects of online voting

The election will be carried out with the support of the POLYAS GmbH. Online elections offer advantages such as accessibility and resource savings compared to traditional elections, but also present challenges in terms of security and transparency.

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is committed to various projects to improve IT security in online elections. This includes a market and vulnerability analysis of online voting products as well as the development of technical specifications and protection profiles. These measures aim to increase the security of elections by ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and additional security requirements.

In order to meet the highest security standards, the data centers in Germany are certified according to ISO/IEC 27001 and are subject to strict security tests. In addition, the software is regularly tested for its resistance to hacker attacks through penetration tests in order to guarantee a high level of data protection and IT security.

In summary, the upcoming supplementary elections face a variety of organizational and technical challenges that will be addressed through the implementation of modern online voting procedures. The University of Weimar strives to enable all members to participate easily and safely.
