New sports hall in Vechta: Thousands dream of becoming a teacher through exams!

Around 120 prospective (teaching) students took the sports aptitude test today, August 20, 2025 University of Vechta part. It was the first time that the university's new sports hall was used for this important exam. The organizers were pleased with the high number of participants and the opportunity to offer students a modern exam environment.

The test is divided into three main areas: the demonstration of ball-playing and team-playing skills, coordination skills and general endurance skills. The disciplines that the examinees had to complete were swimming, table tennis, jumping rope and rebound ball. The run proved to be particularly challenging, with women having to complete 2000 meters in a maximum of 11 minutes and men having to complete 3000 meters in a maximum of 13.30 minutes. About half of the participants were able to pass the exam straight away, but some failed in individual disciplines. These results reflect the high competitiveness of the selection process.

Next steps for participants

Those who did not pass the exam will have the opportunity to re-examine in September. This will take place on September 19, 2025 and is intended to give other interested applicants the opportunity to do well. All information about the aptitude test and enrollment in the sports science course, which is possible until the end of September, is available on the University of Vechta website.

In addition, the importance of sports aptitude tests in the various federal states is generally emphasized. The recognition of these exams varies depending on the country and university. For example, usually only the results of the specific university where the exam was taken are accepted. In Bavaria, the centralized aptitude test BaySPET, which is recognized by all universities, is an example of such a regulation. While all universities in Baden-Württemberg accept cross-certified sports aptitude tests, there are specific restrictions in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Important information and tips for applicants

Those interested should find out early on whether their chosen university recognizes the sports aptitude test. In some cases, examination results can even be additionally assessed and recognized. In order to avoid difficulties when applying, it is important to pay attention to the respective requirements of the universities. This affects both the examination itself and the deadlines for applications for recognition, which often have to be submitted a few weeks before the examination.

For the next examination period in other institutions, such as the TU Dortmund, the high relevance of sports aptitude tests is also pointed out. This exam takes place annually in the summer semester. There, the examinees must pass at least 7 of 8 disciplines in order to be successful. Since some universities also offer disadvantage compensation for certain applicants, it is advisable to find out about individual options.
