450 euros for education in Benin: PH supports the Deutsch Vorwärts” project!
On July 17, 2025, the PH administration handed over a significant donation of 450 euros to the “Deutsch Vorwärts” project of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Porto-Novo, Benin. The ceremonial handover took place in the university garden as part of the end of the semester. Prof. Daniel Rellstab, who has maintained contact with the partner university for several years, was instrumental in initiating the donation.
The money was generated from the proceeds of the campus festival, where a financial contribution to the project was made through the sale of food and non-alcoholic cocktails. Eli Allosse, an exchange student at the PH and member of the “Deutsch Vorwärts” project, thanked everyone involved for the support and explained the planned use of the amount.
About the École Normale Supérieure de Porto-Novo
The École Normale Supérieure de Porto-Novo (ENS/PN) is an important educational and research institute in the Ouémé department that specializes in teacher training. Here teachers are trained in a variety of subjects, including history, geography, philosophy and modern languages such as Spanish, English and German. The ENS offers two main types of training: integrated basic training for new students and continuing professional development for teachers already in their careers.
The training programs lead to various degrees, such as the Brevet d'Aptitude au Professorat de l'Enseignement Secondaire (BAPES), which lasts three years, and the Certificat d'Aptitude au Professorat de l'Enseignement Secondaire (CAPES), which lasts two years. These structures are crucial for the academic and professional development of teachers in the region.
Commitment to educational opportunities in Africa
In addition to these educational initiatives, the IU International University is also active in projects to improve educational opportunities. Dr. Sven Schütt, CEO of IU, recently announced a collaboration with the Study Access Alliance (SAA) and the non-profit organization RLabs. This partnership is supported by UNICEF and Generation Unlimited's YOMA program and aims to promote access to education for young people in Africa.
The project is expected to award several thousand degrees worth 42 million euros. In order to reach the goal of 10,000 scholarships, 8 million euros are still needed. The Study Access Alliance is looking for additional sponsors and partners to help reduce financial barriers and provide practical training and internship opportunities.
RLabs is an award-winning organization founded in Cape Town in 2009 and now operates in 24 countries. It has reached over 60 million people and supported 2.5 million community members in economic empowerment programs. These initiatives are part of a broader commitment to improving the education landscape in Africa.
These new developments and partnerships demonstrate PH and its partners' commitment to improving education and supporting learners in disadvantaged regions to make a meaningful contribution to the global education landscape.
