First semester start at PH Schwäbisch Gmünd: A welcome for 500 new ones!
On October 6th at 10 a.m., the first semester week was officially opened at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education (PH). More than 500 new students arrived at the university to begin their academic journey. Rector Kim-Patrick Sabla-Dimitrov, First Mayor Christian Baron, mayor Karl-Andreas Tickert and district coordinator Monika Schneider warmly welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of encounters, both within the university and with the surrounding city.
The introductory week serves to provide new students with important information about their studies. This includes information about student advice, the courses of study offered and the General Student Committee (AStA). The comprehensive program, which is supported by the student café Matrikü(h)l, also includes, among other things, the opportunity to make first contacts over a free drink.
Extensive program to support students
In the first days of the introductory week, the new students receive organizational information and strategic impulses for designing their studies. This takes the form of mentoring groups, curriculum consultations and open exchange opportunities that aim to make it easier for students to get started.
A highlight of the week will be the city tour of Schwäbisch Gmünd, which will give the new students a first impression of their new surroundings. In addition, a champagne reception is planned in the town hall, to which Mayor Richard Arnold invites. These events enable students to network with each other and with representatives of the university and city.
Mayor Christian Baron made it clear how important educational work is in the region year after year and expressed his wish to the students for success. Regular courses begin on October 13th and continue the educational process at PH.
Information about enrollment and important dates
To enroll, new students require that they first enroll online via the application portal. After successful online enrollment, an application must be printed out, signed and sent by post to the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd Student Secretariat. It is important to do this in a timely manner, as receipt of the application is crucial for the deadline specified in the acceptance letter.
The deadline for enrollment in Bachelor's and Master's programs is August 22, 2025. In this context, new students should ensure that they submit all necessary documents in full in order to gain access to the campus portal for their study certificates. It is also recommended that you contact the department before starting your studies in order to determine any work you may need to catch up on.
The orientation weeks at universities, as recently planned at the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd, are usually held in the first week of the semester. These offer a valuable opportunity to familiarize yourself with the university organization, the facilities and your fellow students. Topics are covered ranging from study and examination regulations to IT introductions, often under the supervision of students in higher semesters.
With this program, freshmen start an exciting and challenging chapter of their lives, supported by the university and the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd, which together create a framework for a successful academic career.
