Freiburg's wine festival and bike tours: An alumna talks about golden times!

On June 17, 2025, many alumni of the University of Freiburg will look back with nostalgia on their time as students. Dr. Nicola Brandt, one of the alumni, particularly fondly remembers the Schnecke-Fescht wine festival in Pfaffenweiler, which holds a special place in her memories. This tradition has not only shaped their personal everyday lives, but has also enriched the cultural life of the region by bringing students and locals together.

Particularly influential for Dr. Brandt also enjoys cycling tours in the vineyards around Freiburg. These experiences not only strengthen the sense of community among fellow students, but also promote appreciation for the area's magnificent nature and culinary diversity. An unforgettable experience was the surprise delivery of a box of wine from a Ihringen winemaker during her thesis, which her father had commissioned for her.

Preferred learning locations and field of study

Among Dr. Brandt owned the economics seminar in KG II as well as the university library, which she particularly enjoyed visiting on Saturdays. For them, these places were not just learning environments; rather, they offered the opportunity to deal intensively with complex topics and prepare for their professional goals.

The influence of her studies on her career is clearly noticeable. Dr. Brandt had the dream early on of contributing to the OECD economic reports. Not only has she realized these ambitions, but she now also works in the economics department of the OECD, where she is responsible for country reports. This shows how training in Freiburg directly contributes to the realization of professional dreams.

Cultural highlight: Freiburg Wine Festival

The annual Freiburg Wine Festival, which takes place from July 3rd to 8th, 2025, is another significant event for the region. It brings together the best wines in the area and attracts numerous visitors, both locals and tourists.

The festival is not only organized by wine producers from Freiburg itself, but also offers a rich program that ranges from culinary delicacies to cultural performances. Such events promote awareness of the region's wine-growing culture and make it possible to experience the beauty of Freiburg in a convivial atmosphere.

Overall, it appears that the experiences of Dr. Brandt during their studies and the ongoing cultural events, such as the wine festival, play a key role in the lives of the students and the entire Freiburg community.
