Experience climate protection in a playful way: time out!” delights families!
The project “out! Experience climate protection together in a playful way”, which is run by the University of Konstanz Developed in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich, the aim is to actively involve families in climate protection through a comprehensive collection of games. On August 29, 2025, the details of this innovative project were announced.
The focus is on the free game collection “auszeit!”, which was specially designed for children and parents who want to be active outdoors. It includes a total of 22 different games, which are led by the mascot “Raus!-Maus”. The games can be started in any order and right on your doorstep, which conveys important information about climate protection and healthy nutrition.
Digital innovations and sustainable topics
The digital action cards are easily accessible via smartphones, and printable playing cards are also available. Activities include experiencing the sounds of nature, promoting climate-friendly behavior, holding an upcycling Olympics and taking part in a weekly market rally. A quiz at the end of each activity provides participants with additional knowledge about environmental issues that are of great importance for the future.
The project team, consisting of Nils Jakubzig, Sarah Spengler and Barbara Eigenschenk, developed the concept over a period of two years based on scientific findings. The initiative received funding from the former Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative. In the third year of funding, the focus will be on disseminating the “rauszeit! box” throughout Germany.
Events and workshops
Events and workshops are also planned to publicize the games. Numerous creative suggestions are offered for families interested in climate-friendly upbringing. A comprehensive guide offers parents the opportunity to promote awareness of environmental and climate protection. On commonraus.de Further information and access to the games are available.
The relevance of such initiatives is becoming increasingly clear today. Children need to be sensitized to the challenges of climate change in their daily education. This also means that they understand the impact of their actions on the environment and learn to act responsibly.
Parents can actively contribute to their children's environmental education through age-appropriate media, excursions into nature and conversations about climate protection in everyday life. Projects such as waste separation in the household or upcycling ideas can be implemented within the family and offer a playful opportunity to increase climate awareness.
A sustainable everyday life is not only supported by environmentally friendly upbringing, but also by the conscious use of resources. Saving energy in the home and a vegan or vegetarian diet are additional aspects that can be incorporated into family traditions.
At a time when climate protection is more on the agenda than ever, it is essential to show children how they can take action. Through a variety of initiatives, such as the game collection from the University of Konstanz and the Technical University of Munich, the aim is to create a healthy earth for healthy children - a goal that is becoming more and more important.
